Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary of Awami League Dr Hasan Mahmud said the BNP wants to make joke of foreign friends for their contribution in the 1971 Liberation War in the name of reception.
“The BNP, whose close ally is anti-liberation Jamaat, wants to joke with foreign friends in the name of according them a reception,” he said this on Sunday while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city’s Segunbagicha here.
Bangabandhu Prajanmo League (BPL) organized the discussion marking the historic March 7 with its founder president Barrister Zakir Ahmed in the chair. The programme was also addressed, among others, by Minister for Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Hoque, BPL general secretary M Moazzem Hossain, organizing secretary Nazrul Islam Jamal and Hindu-Buddha Oikya Parishad city unit president Chittaranjan Das.
Dr Hasan said the BNP has to cut ties with Jamaat-e-Islami, the 19-party alliance’s leading component, which did not want an independent Bangladesh. “The BNP is patronising Jamaat and giving it opportunity in upazila elections to win the posts of vice president,” the former minister said.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said, “We have incorporated Bangabandhu’s historic March 7 speech in the Constitution. “Thousands of people from all walks of life gathered at the Suhrawardy Uddyan and were inspired by Bangabandhu’s historic speech on March 7, 1971 for independence,” he said. Mozammel said, “We have to materialise Bangabandhu’s thoughts and vision in the country.”
