BNP wants to hold rally on Jan 7 at Suhrawardy Udyan

The BNP on Wednesday announced that it would hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on January 7 to mark the ‘Democracy Killing Day’ of January 5.
BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said they are seeking permission through the proper channel from the competent authorities in this connection.
To observe the day, BNP has also chalked out programme like bringing out processions with black flags and wearing black badges across the country except in Dhaka city on January 5.
BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi disclosed it in a press briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan office.
The party observes the day on January 5 every year since 2014 protesting the one-sided general election held in that year.
The BNP leader also said, violence against the women is increasing alarmingly in the country. “The ruling party men are involved with most of the violence incidents including rape and killing in the recent times,” he alleged.
BNP central leader Abdus Salam, Khairul Kabir Khokon and Abdus Salam Azad, among others, were present.
Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a separate programme told reporters that ‘Zila Parishad polls contradicts the Constitution and that is why the BNP has boycotted it’.
He said, no election can be free, fair and acceptable under the Awami League government. He said it after visiting the ailing chief of Jatiya Ganotanrik Party Shafiul Alam Prodhan in a hospital at Mirpur on the day.
