The BNP on Friday demanded to bring necessary amendment to the proposed road transport law.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Friday demanded of bringing necessary amendment to the proposed road transport law as it would not ‘ensure’ safety in roads demanded by the agitated students in recent movement.
“The proposed road transport law would not ensure safety on roads. It also will not meet the demands of the agitated students in recent movement. No one except the transport owners and workers will accept the proposed law,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said this at a press conference at the party’s central office in the capital.
He asked for amending the law through discussion with the agitator students for safe roads and those who are working for long time in the sector.
“There is no clear guideline in the proposed law about avoiding killing of human in road transport sector and unwanted accident. Besides, there is no provision of tough punishment,” said Mirza Fakhrul.
He said there is no provision in the proposed law about effective legal steps
against transport owners and check corruption in BRTA.
BNP Standing Committee Members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan and Nazrul Islam Khan, senior leaders Abdus Salam and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, among others, were present.
BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed at a separate discussion meeting in the city yesterday said that no one knows when, what will be happened.
“There is no government in the country. The time is coming fast for the change of those, who exist as the name of government. Because, their time is running fast,” Moudud said while addressing a meeting at the National Press Club.
The BNP leader demanded immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda for his statement that there was no guarantee of irregularity- free general elections.
Moudud Ahmed said the CEC has lost his rights to stay at his post.
He warned the government that the attacks on the student protesters would be a backfire against them.
“The government has to pay hefty price for the attack,” he said.
He demanded immediate release of 22 students who were sent to jail after arrest over the safe road protests.
Moudud also criticised the government for its failure to arrest the attackers of US Ambassador Marcia Bernicat.
He also criticised the arrest and torture in custody of acclaimed photographer Shahidul Alam.
Nagarik Adhikar Andolan Forum organised the discussion on protesting the attacks on students and journalists during the safe road protest agitation and sedition charge against top BNP leaders over the protest.
Sayeed Ahmed Aslam Advisor of the organization presided over the programme.
BNP Vice-Chairman and Journalist leader Shawkat Mahmud, BNP Joint-Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and Central Leader Abu Naser Muhammad Rahmatullah, among others, spoke on the occasion.
