Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim on Sunday urged BNP leaders to stop making worthless demands and follow the provisions of the Constitutions of the country.
“Why are you making hopeless demands? I’m requesting you to stop demanding anything out of our Constitution…Come and join the election and face the people,” he advised the BNP leaders.
He said this on Sunday while speaking as the chief guest at a ‘National Award Giving Ceremony for EmOC (Emergency Obstetric Care) Services’ jointly organised by the ministry, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), UNFPA and UNICEF at Hotel Sonargaon in the city.
Nasim, also the Presidium Member of Awami League, said, “The posting of OC (officer-in-charge) and DC (Deputy Commissioner) would be given following the instruction of EC for three months during the election period…The order of Sheikh Hasina would not work that time.”
Referring the elections of the USA and India, he said, “Donald Trump and Narendra Modi came in power, winning elections held under Barack Obama and Manmohan Singh respectively…So why should we break the rules of our Constitution?”
“The next parliamentary election would be held under the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he added.
“BNP should participate in the next general election as the Election Commission (EC) is working independently,” he said asking BNP to extend their cooperation for strengthening the election commission for holding a free, fair and creditable election.
