The BNP on Wednesday expressed frustration and anger at the Supreme Court order that stayed the High Court order granting bail to the BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
“We are upset, angry and sad for today’s order. We think it has tarnished the image and tradition of the highest court,” said Barrister Moudud Ahmed, at a press conference in its Nayapaltan office.
He said also, “The highest court can pass any order, but passing an order after an unilateral hearing is not logical at all.”
The party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also expressed his frustration there while taking.
“The court’s order reflected the government’s will. It is playing tricks so that Khaleda Zia is not bailed out soon. It is obstructing Khaleda Zia even to sign the vokalatnama,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
“We are frustrated at the order. The government has been destroying institutions one after another. It now wants to destroy the judiciary,” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul also alleged that the government’s main agenda is to keep BNP away from the polls.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed a High Court order granting four-month interim bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case until Sunday.
On Monday, the High Court granted the interim bail to Khaleda Zia.
Among other leaders, BNP’s Standing Committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Dr. Abdul Moeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Vice-Chairman Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin, among others, were present.
