BSS, Dhaka :
Publicity and Publication affairs secretary of the ruling Awami League Dr Hasan Mahmud said BNP leaders are trying to distort history in their bid to offset the frustration persisting in the party rank and file. “BNP’s backbone has broken following the January 5 parliament polls. Tarique Rahman has been conspiring against the nation’s history staying in London to remove frustration prevailing among his party leaders and workers,” he said.
“BNP’s politics is based on lies. Now they are resorting to falsehood on the first president of Bangladesh. Leaders of the party (BNP) have been suffering from delirium being isolated from the people. They are now distorting history,” the Awami League leader said this on Thursday while speaking at a press conference in the city. The ruling Awami League organised the press conference at the political office of party president Sheikh Hasina at Dhanmondi here mainly to give reply to the remarks of BNP vice-chairman Tarique Rahman in London.
Dr Hasan Mahmud said as the frustrating BNP’s rank and file have been holding their chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and senior vice- chairman Tarique Rahman responsible for not taking part in the January 5 national polls, Tarique Rahman has been distorting history in his bid to remove frustration prevailing among party leaders and activists.
He said, “Tarique Rahman has committed an act of sedition by distorting the history. Resorting to falsehood on an established truth tantamounts to sedition. BNP leaders have been coming up with irrelevant statements to become news headlines. Staying in London Tarique Rahman has been showing his audacity like an ignorant person through his arrogance and derogatory remarks.”
