The BNP on Wednesday said it would announce its next course of action from Saturday’s rally.
“We will announce party’s future course of action and programmes from Saturday’s rally to be held at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital,” said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
The press briefing was held after a combined meeting of the party leaders about preparation of Saturday’s rally.
He said that the party’s policy-oriented statement will be issued from the public meeting.
Mirza Fakhrul said that his party wanted to hold the rally on Thursday, but police told them that it would not be wise to hold the rally on a working day.
So, we shifted the date and now it would be held on Saturday as per the police suggestion, he said.
About two major showdowns on the same day in the capital, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Now it is being stated that there is a programme of Awami League the same day.”
He said, the Awami League’s programme will possibly be held at Mahanagar Natyamancha at Gulistan.
“The Awami League’s venue is far away from our programme at Suhrawardy Udyan. So everything will be quite on that day,” said Fakhrul.
The BNP leader accused the ruling Awami League leaders of provoking tension.
“AL Senior leader and Minister Mohammad Nasim asked their party men to intercept the BNP people at every post while the party’s another leader Nanak (Joint-General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak) told his party activists to break the hands and legs of BNP men. It is their language. These prove that who want anarchy and violence,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
He said the people know that who killed 27 youths beaten with ‘logi’ and ‘baitha’ (sticks to sail boats).
“It is Awami League who have created a atmosphere of terrorism,” he said.
