Three city polls: BNP to stay till last moment

The BNP on Sunday announced that it would stay till last moment in the field of vote in Rajshahi, Barishal and Sylhet cities scheduled for today (Monday), although the party found no possibilities of fair elections.
BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said this at a press briefing at the party’s central office.
He brought allegation of arrest, intimidation, filing false cases and raiding houses of the party leaders and activists in the three cities ahead of the polls.
He warned the government that it cannot have power to check the flow of political situation to be erupted if irregularities take place in the Monday’s city polls.
“Keep it mind that the people of our country will no more sit in idle. Siren would be ringed until they oust this oppressed ruler,” he said.
Rizvi said police on Saturday night arrested BNP’s Sylhet City Corporation poll campaign committee’s member secretary Abdur Razzak.
He accused the supporters of ruling party’s mayor candidate in Sylhet of exploding crude bomb in a planned way to implicate BNP leaders and activists by filing false case.
He alleged that local administration nakedly working for the candidate of Awami League in the three cities.
Rizvi said in Rajshahi police and local administration were jointly involved in lawlessness to hold unilateral polls in favour of AL candidate.
He said election campaign offices of mayor candidate of sheaf of paddy, BNP’s election symbol, were closed forcibly from the whole areas of Rajshahi city.
The BNP leader also made allegation that additional stamped ballot papers were brought to Rajshahi from Dhaka by black car. The BNP leader claimed that Barishal is now under the possession of Awami League cadres.
