Staff Reporter :
The BNP has urged the Prime Minister to prove her allegation that the party (BNP) returned to power in 2001 with the help of India and the USA in exchange of selling gas to the neighbouring country.
Saying it on Sunday, the BNP leaders reminded the Awami League that they have friends, but not masters. Popularity and trust are their foundations and they did not sign any secret deal with any foreign country in 2001 prior to the general election.
“The BNP believes in democracy. Its leaders and workers want good relation with India, obviously a democratic country. But we cannot shut our eyes if India tries to interfere in the Bangladesh’s internal and external policies and strategies. The nation too will not accept it, said BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, adding that the BNP has no master beyond the boundary.
The reality is that the BNP has friends, but the ruling Awami League has masters.
He said it while addressing a programme organised at the photo journalists association in the city by the Bangladesh NAP in observance of the 38th death anniversary of former NAP leader Mashiur Rahman Jadu Mian.
The BNP leader also criticized the Jatiya Party’s endeavour to build an alliance. “It is an ongoing drama in the name of alliance. To form an alliance demands popular support. Does the Jatiya Party leader has it? He questioned.
Bangladesh NAP President Jebel Rahman Gani presided over the programme. Kalyan Party Chairman Major General (rtd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, NDP Chairman Khandakar Golam Mortuza, BNP Joint-Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon, LDP leader Shahadat Hossain Selim, and Bangladesh NAP Secretary General M. Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan, among others, highlighted the political career of Mashiur Rahman.
Meanwhile BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu on the same day urged the Prime Minister to prove that their party chief Khaleda Zia carried the BNP to power by giving an undertaking to India in 2001. If she fails to prove, she must admit her mistake to the nation.
Speaking at a human chain programme, Dudu said it.
Bangladesh Islamic Party’s Dhaka city unit arranged the programme in front of the National Press Club, protesting the recent gas price hike and demanding the removal of he statue of the Greek goddess’ from the Supreme Court’s premises.
