BNP to mourn Piash Karim’s death today

BNP will observe ‘mourning day’ on Wednesday across the country to condole the death of BRAC University professor and right-leaning political analyst Dr Piash Karim.
“BNP has announced a countrywide ‘mourning day’ for Wednesday at the premature death of eminent social scientist and political analyst,” said a party press release on Tuesday.
To mark the day, BNP will hoist black flags and keep the party flags at half-mast at its offices all levels across the country.
Besides, the party leaders and activists will wear black badges in observance of the day, the release added.
Piash Karim, a professor of BRAC University’s Economics and Social Sciences Department, died of cardiac arrest early Monday at the age of 56.
Earlier, the BNP chairperson, senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman and BNP acting secretary general expressed profound shock at his death.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday night also visited the house of Dr Piash Karim and consoled his bereaved family members.
Piash Karim’s body has been kept at Square Hospital’s mortuary.
Family sources said the decision about his burial will be finalised after his three sisters, living in the USA, Canada and India, return home.
