Lawmakers from both the treasury and opposition benches expressed their firm conviction that Bangladesh would be a develop country by 2041 and the BNP will be compelled to participate in the next general elections.
Taking part in the general discussion on the thanksgiving motion of President M Abdul Hamid’s address to the Jatiya Sangsad on January 22, the parliament members highly appreciated the bold and dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that has helped Bangladesh achieving a lower middle-income status in the world by the mean time.
They said the present government is relentlessly working towards advancing the national economy in a faster pace by speeding up development in all sectors.
The MPs said the living standard of all in Bangladesh has already been raised to a higher extent, giving a clear sign of the country’s becoming a developed country in course of time. The country has already achieved success in the health, electricity, education, agriculture, food, communications, science and technology, industries, women and children sectors and achieved appreciations and recognitions from various international forums in this regard.
During their speeches, the lawmakers termed the President’s speech a realistic and unique document of what the present government did in terms of development on the basis of its future plans to turn Bangladesh into a developed country as early as possible.
Taking part in discussion on Sunday, Awami League lawmaker Fazlul Karim Selim said the speech of the President echoed the hopes and desires of the common people, as it is a clear guideline for the country’s future development.
He said the next general elections would be held under the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in line with the constitution, adding, “The BNP will take part in that polls rubbing its nose on the ground and no conspiracy would affect the next election process.”
Regarding negotiations with the BNP, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, who is also a residium member of Bangladesh Awami League, said no discussions could be held with such an organization that killed innocent people and torched transports through arson attacks.
He said no 15-February style farce election staged by the BNP will be held in Bangladesh again.
Referring to a recent Canadian federal court observation that termed the BNP a terrorist outfit, the Awami League senior lawmaker urged the countrymen to boycott the party.
Sounding a note of warning, he said the BNP will not find any path to flee Pakistan in face of public wrath if the party again tries to unleash anarchy in the country in the name of movement.
Selim said a graft case has been filed against Begum Khaleda Zia for embezzling the fund of orphanage and the law will take its own courses in this regard.
The rule of law is now established in the country and Khaleda would not be spared for misappropriating the orphanage money, Selim added.
The MPs paid their heartfelt tributes to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four national leaders, martyred freedom fighters and also those who made their supreme sacrifices during the War of Liberation and all subsequent democratic movements in the country.
Among others, Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam, Bir Uttam, Tipu Munshi, Abdul Hye, Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, Nabi Newaz, Begum Umme Razia Kajol, Golam Rabbani and opposition bench member Advocate M Ziaul Haque Mridha took part in the general discussion.
