The main opposition party BNP announced to hold series of rallies in all divisional cities before a grand rally in the capital.
The party will hold the grand rally in Dhaka city on December 10 after holding public meetings at different divisional cities across the country.
The BNP has taken the initiatives after holding a series of demonstration and protest rallies in the different areas in Dhaka City for strengthening its ongoing anti-government movement.
“The anti-people government hiked essential items price many fold beyond their purchasing capacity. They have killed about five BNP men in our recent agitation movements in Bhola, Narayangonj and Munshigonj,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
“The programmes were announced in protest against price hike of essentials, death of party leaders and workers during the ongoing movement, demanding release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, and protesting implicating leaders and workers in false cases,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday said while announcing the programmes at a press conference at the party’s Chairperson’s political office at Gulshan in the capital.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the party took the decision at a standing committee meeting on Monday night.
The BNP standing committee meeting also decided to accelerate the ongoing movement demanding the resignation of Sheikh Hasina-led ‘unelected government’ from power.
It demanded to hand over power to a neutral caretaker government and holding the next parliamentary election under that government.
The BNP Secretary General said that the programmes will start with Chattogram Division on October 8, Mymensingh Division on October 15, Khulna Division on October 22, Rangpur Division October 29, Barishal Division on November 5, Faridpur Division on November 12, Sylhet Division on November 19, Cumilla Division on November 26, Rajshahi Division on December 3 and a grand rally in Dhaka City on December 10.
Mirza Fakhrul also said that people’s participation in recently held rallies of BNP has increased manifold.
“We want to involve the masses and it’s an important thing for us,” he said.
The BNP has held 14 out of its announced 16 protest programmes in Dhaka organised by the party’s Dhaka South and North city units since September 10.
The Mirpur-Pallabi protest rally were foiled by police and Awami League men’s attack before starting.
Meanwhile, the party has postponed the Lalbagh rally.
The party also organized protest demonstrations in thana, upazila, municipalities and union level since August 22.
The BNP held protest programmes in Dhaka North and South city units and other city units against loadshedings and dysfunctions in energy sectors in the country on July 29, 30 and 31.
