Chittagong Bureau :Chittagong City BNP leaders on Thursday vowed to support Manzoor Alam as the Mayoral candidate for a second term in the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) polls with the green signal from the party’s high command. They also urged all leaders and workers at grassroots level to work together for Manzoor Alam in a meeting at the residence of Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, President of Chittagong City BNP.They also constituted an Election Management Committee with Vice Chairman of BNP Abdullah al Noman as Convener and Amir Khasru as Chief Election Agent. BNP supported peshajibi forum Chittagong Unnayan Anodolan (CUA) earlier declared Manzoor as Mayor candidate at a press conference on Wednesday. Later, the city BNP convened the meeting on behalf of the party. In the meeting, Abdullah al Noman said BNP had taken challenge to participate in the mayoral polls. Amir Khasru said though Manzoor is yet to get the nod from high command as a Mayor candidate, we have got signal from the party to take preparations and work for Manzoor in the election. Mayor aspirant Manzoor was also spoke on the occasion Among others, Shamsul Alam, SM Fazlul Hoque, Jafrul Islam Chowdhury, Abu sufian and Abdullah al Hasan were present on the occasion.Meanwhile, BNP central committee vice chairman Abdulllah al Noman formally inaugurated a main election campaign camp for Mayor candidate Manzoor at Dewanhat crossing in city. Meanwhile, Mayor Manzoor Alam collected nomination paper from Returning Officer Abdul Baten yesterday at about 4pm to face the forthcoming Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) polls. BNP vice chairman Abdullah al Noman Manzoor accompanied Manjoor to the EC Office when he went there for collecting nomination paper from Returning Officer Abdul Baten at about 4:00pm. Earlier Manjoor also submitted his resignation paper to CCC authority before collecting nomination paper. Talking to the journalists, Manzoor said he had discharged his responsibilities honestly for the welfare of city dwellers during for the last five years of his tenure. “With the support of BNP, I have collected the nomination paper as a nominee of Chittagong Unnayan Andolan. I will submit the nomination paper on March 29,” he said.
