Police barred a BNP delegation from visiting BUET student Abrar’s family in Kushtia district on Sunday.
They were forced to return to Dhaka from toll plaza of Lalan Shah Bridge of Pabna-Kushtia highway at Bheramara point around 12:00 noon without meeting Abrar’s family members due to the obstruction of police.
Earlier, BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Aman Ullah Aman’s car reached Bheramara upazila toll plaza around 11:00am. Party’s Executive Committee member Nazim Uddin Alam, district President Mehdi Rumi and General Secretary Sohbar Uddin were also in the delegation.
Bheramara police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Alim said the law and order situation worsened when BUET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Saiful Islam came to meet Abrar’s family on October 9.
“So, the BNP delegation was discouraged from meeting the family at Raydanga village for the same reason,” he added.
Abrar, an Electrical and Electronics Engineering student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), was beaten to death allegedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders on October 6 night.
