BNP on Saturday submitted a list of 21 arrested leaders and activists to the Election Commission (EC).
The party’s Lawsuits and Information Record Officer Md Salahudddin Khan submitted the list on Saturday afternoon.
The BNP leaders also criticized the EC’s inaction over death of one of its nomination seekers from Jashore-6.
The Election Commission on Thursday held a meeting with law enforcers who were instructed not to file any case to harass anyone and arrest anyone without warrant.
“Despite the EC’s instruction, 21 BNP leaders and activists were arrested in barely two days,” Salahuddin said after submitting the list. BNP also submitted a list of 1,047 arrested party men to the EC earlier.
Meanwhile, BNP today also submitted another letter to the EC criticising the Commission for its “silence” and “inaction” over the death of the party’s one of the nomination seekers from Jashore-6 constituency Abu Bakr Abu.
In the letter signed by the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP alleged “The Election Commission was notified three times after Abu went missing, but the commission did not instruct law enforcers to rescue him alive.”
Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda yesterday (Saturday) said that the law enforcers were not arresting anyone without a valid reason or going beyond the directives of the EC.
