Despite declaration of the 275 members full-fledged committee of Chittagong City BNP on July 10 last year by the central committee, organizational activities of opposition BNP still remained standstill in Chittagong.
Sources said, intra-farty feud spreads in Chittagong City BNP following forming of thana committees of the Chittagong city area recently. Following the grouping among BNP leaders in Chittagong City Committee, the BNP activists could not arrange any anti-government programs and even they could not collect the relief for Rohingya refugees in the port city.
The root level activists and leaders of BNP in the port city alleged that the city committee leaders are engaged with drawing room politics. They are not interested to arrange any political programs in outside.
“Even the thana committees are forming in the drawing room of the top leaders of Chittagong City Committee. The city committee leaders are not interested to arrange any council or rallies of thana committees,” they further alleged preferring anonymity.
Sources said, although the newly declared BNP Chittagong City committee leaders had committed that the councils of 41 ward committees in the city area would be held within October last year but there is no council as per their commitment given in a press conference. As a result, the inner conflict is increasing among the leaders and activists of BNP in the city area.
Meanwhile, Dr Shahadat Hossain, the new president of BNP Chittagong City Committee declared eight thana committees in Chittagong on July 12 last year. But, the leaders of all thana committees are being dissatisfied over the declaration of the thana committees without council. The leaders alleged that the dedicated BNP leaders in root level were being excluded from the committees.
They also alleged that Dr Shahadat Hossain, the new president of BNP Chittagong City Committee formed the committees by his own men. Besides, they also alleged that Dr Shahadat Hossain also took money for giving the posts to the leaders.
