Awami League on Tuesday claimed the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) polls as ‘peaceful’ and blamed that BNP is spreading rumours over the peaceful voting.
“BNP is spreading rumours for making the KCC’s peaceful polling questionably,” said Awami League Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak.
He made the comment at a press briefing at the party’s President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office during the voting.
He said, “City dwellers, regardless male and female, exercised their franchise since morning with excitement and enthusiasm. A fair and neutral polling took place in the city.”
“We hope that the people would not accept the BNP’s allegations and the rumours,” the AL leader said.
He also expressed hope that Awami League mayoral candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque will surely win in KCC election.
Awami League Joint General Secretary Abdur Rahman, Organising Secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Education and Human Resource Affairs Secretary Shamsunnahar Chapa, among others, were also present.
On the other hand, Talukder Abdul Khaleque dismissed the allegation by the BNP candidate that his agents were barred from entering polling centres.
Abdul Khaleque said, “How can he complain of his agents being driven away before starting the voting, this is utterly untrue.”
“We cannot help if their organisation is weak or they lack number of agents,” he said.
In the same time he said that he is ready to accept any outcome of the polls.
