BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has criticised President Abdul Hamid Advocate for providing ‘false’ information to Secretary General of United Nations (UN) Ban Ki-moon.
Addressing a workshop at a hotel in the city on Saturday, he said that the President willfully delivered ‘false’ statement. He lost his acceptance through such statement. The BNP arranged the daylong leadership building workshop for students of different private universities.
President Abdul Hamid in a meeting with the UN Secretary General on Thursday told him that the situation in Bangladesh was
stable and the people accepted the Januray-5 election results. He also told Ban Ki-moon that talks could be held at the end of the tenure of the present government.
Mirza Fakhrul refuted the claim and said, the country is passing through crisis moment. He blamed the ruling Awami League for the unstable situation and that the countrymen did not accept the Januray-5 election. It was nothing but a farce in the name of national election. He called upon the government to take the initiative of holding a fresh and inclusive election.
The BNP leader questioned the ongoing drive to detect formalin in foods and fruits and said that the drive is not being run in proper way. For this reason, the small traders and the farmers are being affected, he alleged.
Mirza Fakhrul also addressed a separate rally at the National Press Club in the city. Bangladesh Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad, a pro-BNP professional platform, arranged the rally demanding restoration of voting rights and rule and law and release of Amar Desh Acting Editor Mahmudur Rahman.
In the rally, he alleged that the ruling party was fostering godfather in a bid to cling to power. “No autocratic ruler would stay in power in the past for long. The ruling Awami League also can’t survive through fostering Shamim Osman, Hazari, Ilias Mollah and other godfathers.”
BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah also addressed the function with Ruhul Amin Gazi in the chair.
