Staff Reporter :
When the government says that they are ready to consider BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia’s prayer for release on parole, there is ill motive behind, says the BNP leaders.

“The story is produced by the government as part of its soiled politics. We want our chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s immediate and unconditional release from prison, but we oppose release on parole, instead on bail.. So far none of the party leaders, nor any member of the Khaleda Zia’s family sent any petition seeking Khaleda Zia’s release on parole,” said BNP Joint-Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal to The New Nation on Tuesday.
He said, “We have no plan to do it. Khaleda Zia has no history of getting release from jail on parole so far. She has right to get bail from the court. But it is the matter to regret that the government is creating obstacles on the way to her bail.” Moazzem Hossain Alal, a lawyer by profession, said, if the government has any positive outlook about Khaleda Zia’s release, then they should stop opposing her bail petitions in the courts.
As a senior citizen of the country and former prime minister she deserve the right to get bails.
“If the Attorney General and the public prosecutors refrain from opposing our party chairpersons bail pleas in the court,s then her release will be in sight.” Alal said.
Apart from it, Alal said, “The ruling Awami League is playing political game with the BNP by talking of Khaleda’s release on parole. They want to bemuse the members of the public that the BNP itself does not want her release and that is why the party leaders are not opting for alternative way. BNP Vice-Chairman Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin told The New Nation yesterday, ” Khaleda Zia is not such a personality to get release on parole instead of bail.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Saturday said in a programee in Jamalpur if Khaleda Zia wants release from jail, she have to submit an application to the government, which is ready to consider.
Law Minister Anisul Haque on Monday said in his secretariat office if the government gets any application, then Khaleda Zia will get release on parole from jail.
When contacted, BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Mosharraf Hossain said, “We, the leaders of BNP have no information about the parole. It is a fairy tale being discussed by the ruling party Awami League.”
The senior BNP leader said also, “The BNP leaders never want conditional release of Begum Khaleda Zia. But we want her immediate unconditional release.”
The BNP has its own programme like hunger strike, sit in programme and such others, demanding Khaleda Zia’s unconditional release and cancellations of all cases filed against her.
Apart from these, the BNP led 20 party alliance and the Jatiya Oikyafront (JOF) will also observe programme jointly and separately.
Leaders of the 20 party alliance have conducted a meeting in BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office on Monday night. They have decided to start tough movement demanding Khaleda Zia’s release.
Earlier, the JOF leaders ASM Abdur Rab, the President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) and Mahmudur Rahman Manna, the convener of Nagorik Oikya separately said they will organize movement demanding Khaleda Zia’s release from jail.
