UNB, Dhaka :
BNP on Wednesday urged the Election Commission to quickly dispose of petitions filed against the decisions of returning officers over the rejection and acceptance of nomination papers submitted by aspirants to contest the 11th parliamentary elections.
The party in a letter, signed by its
Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, requested the Chief Election Commissioner to sort out the petitions by December 7 or within a quickest possible time so that political parties can finalise their respective candidates within the stipulated time.
BNP Joint Secretary Moazzem Hossain Alal handed over the letter to EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed at his office in the city.
“If there’s any delay in disposal of the petitions, it’ll create complexity for political parties in finalising candidates by December 9,” the letter reads.
A total of 543 petitions were filed with the EC within the stipulated time challenging the decisions of the returning officers over the rejection and acceptance of nomination papers, said the EC Secretary while briefing reporters on Wednesday.
