UNB, Dhaka :
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday said forging a national unity will be the most essential task to restore democracy in the country.
“Our all rights have been infringed one by one. Not only our party men, but also numerous people have been repressed, killed, imprisoned and crippled across the country at this tough time. Maintaining unity among us and forging a national unity is now the biggest need for restoring democracy,” he said.
The BNP leader was addressing a doa mahfil, arranged at the party’s Nayapaltan Central Office,
seeking early recovery of ailing BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, now undergoing treatment in London.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of BNP arranged the doa mahfil. The JCD also arranged the same programme in cities, universities and upazilas across the country seeking early recovery of the BNP chief.
On September 16, Khaleda Zia left the country for London for her eye treatment and health check-up as well as celebrating Eid-ul Azha there with her family members.
Fakhrul said, a democratic movement can never go in vain. The democracy-loving people of the country will establish democracy braving all the harassments and repressions, he added.
“We’re fighting for getting our rights back under the leadership of our leader (Khaleda). We hope, she’ll return among us soon and will lead us in the right way of the democratic movement… the success will be ours, Inshallah,” Fakhrul said.
