UNB, Dhaka :
BNP on Monday sought the government’s sincere cooperation in bringing its leader Salahuddin Ahmed, undergoing treatment at a hospital in India’s Shillong in police custody, back home safely and sending him abroad for better treatment. “Salahuddin Ahmed was found in India after nearly two months of his disappearance. At this moment, the government’s support is crucial to bring him back home safely or send him abroad as per his family’s demand for better treatment,” said BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon. Addressing a briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, he also said Salahuddin was held by Indian police without any passport. “So, the government’s help is very necessary. We think the government will come up with its sincere cooperation to this end.” Asked whether they are getting help from the government regarding Salahuddin, Ripon said it cannot be said they are not getting the government’s cooperation as they are yet to apply for his passport. Ripon also said Salahuddin’s wife Hasina Ahmed went to Shillong to meet her husband. “We’ll be able to know Salahuddin’s actual condition once his wife meets him and then we’ll inform you that. Hasina Ahmed left Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday night and reached Shillong on Monday afternoon via Kolkata. Meghalaya police arrested BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed on May 11 as he was hanging around aimlessly in Golf Links area of Shillong after nearly two months of his disappearance. Since he had no valid papers, identity proof or travel permit, he was arrested by Meghalaya police and booked under the Foreigners Act.
