UNB, Dhaka :
Accusing the government of creating a smokescreen over the arrest of the accused and investigating into the incident, BNP has expressed doubt over the fair trial of Narayanganj seven-murder case.
“After buying a long time, two accused RAB officials were arrested on Friday night. We’re sceptical about the fair trial of the incident as the way government is killing time in arresting the accused and probe into the incident,” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
He was addressing a press briefing at the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
Referring to media reports, Rizvi said sacked RAB official Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad who was arrested in connection with Narayanganj incident had also earlier made disappeared Laksam BNP leader Hiru and Siddhiganj businessman Ismail Hossain.
He alleged that the incidents of killing and forced disappearance are increasing alarmingly across the country. “People had hoped that
the countrywide killings, abductions and forced disappearances would come to an end after the Narayanganj incident. But, it’s continuing alarmingly.”
Rizvi said, had the RAB not been used by the government for killing opposition leaders, including Hiru, the incident like Narayanganj one would not have taken place.
Reiterating his party’s demand for disbanding RAB, the BNP joint secretary general said there is no alternative to dissolving this force as it has got its image tarnished and it turned into a horror force by indulging in killings and forced disappearances.
He said the government has turned the RAB force into ‘Rakkhi Bahini to annihilate BNP and keep the party away from politics.
