City Desk :
Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday said BNP’s politics is revolving around Khaleda Zia’s health and Tarique Rahman’s punishment issues, reports BSS.
“They (BNP) cannot go beyond the two subjects . . . their politics rotates on Khaleda Zia’s health and Tarique Rahman’s punishment issues. And it is really unfortunate for a political party,” he told newsmen at the meeting room of his Secretariat office here.
Criticising a remark of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the minister said Awami League (AL) was established about 40 decades ago before Begum Zia came into politics and the country has achieved independence under the party (AL). This kind of speech by Mirza Fakhrul is absurd and they are giving different statements to create confusion among the people, he added.
Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, said they (BNP) do not do politics for the mass people. They only do politics centring Begum Zia’s health and Tarique Rahman’s punishment issues.
The minister prayed for the early recovery of Khaleda Zia and wished her return home. Replying to another query over the ongoing students’ movement, he urged them (students) to remain alert so no one can exploit them as a pawn of politics.
“We sympathize with the students as they are doing movements for safe road. The Prime Minister has also implemented half-fare policy for them at all BRTC busses across the country,” he said.
“Apart from this, bus owners association in Dhaka has also implemented the half-fare policy for them while it will also be implemented in Chattogram. But, is it logical to block the road and create suffering for the common people in the name of movement?” he added.
He said it was seen in the social platforms that mothers of students and a 35-year-old political activist are also doing movement by wearing school dresses. In fact, politics has been entered into the movement and the students should remain alert, he added.
Replying to another query over the death of a KUET teacher, Hasan said the death is really unexpected and tragic.
The minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
He said the incident is now under investigation. “I think that the cause behind his death will be revealed through proper investigation,” he continued, saying, “If anyone is responsible, the culprits will be punished.”
