The BNP has reacted to the government’s allegation against the party leaders involving them in the foreigner killing. The party came down heavily on Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal for his statement accusing BNP leader MA Quayum as the “Boro Bhai” behind the murder of Italian citizen.
BNP spokesman Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon in a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the city on Wednesday termed the home minister’s claim “baseless”.
He castigated the claim as politically motivated in order to harass the BNP leaders. He claimed that a fair probe would find that BNP leaders had no link with the foreigners’ killing. “The BNP does not believe in the politics of vengeance. “None of the four men held in connection with Tavella murder is a BNP activist”, said Dr Ripon.
He accused the government of trying to illegally implicate the BNP leaders in the murder incidents to tarnish the party’s image.
Meanwhile, BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan at a Doa Mahfil in the party office hour after the briefing said that their party would not take the responsibility for any killing carried out by any individual. He, however, said if any leader or activist is falsely implicated to tarnish the party’s image, the party would resist the attempt strongly.
Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal, a front body of the BNP, arranged the programme seeking early recovery of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who is now staying in London for treatment purpose.
“We want to clearly state that BNP is liberal and a democratic party. It respects religious values. This party doesn’t do the politics of killing. We don’t believe in the politics of killing.
So, if any one kills someone personally, BNP won’t take its responsibility. We will also resist the attempt of involving BNP men falsely,” he said.
Pointing at the Home Minister’s comment, Nazrul said that BNP leaders are being implicated in the foreigner killing to prove the Prime Minister’s remark correct, as she had said that BNP-Jamaat carried out the murders.
He alleges that the investigations into the foreigners’ killings are being hampered, as the ministers and ruling party leaders are making unguarded remarks involving BNP with those incidents.
The government is again conspiring to hold an uncompetitive election by making BNP leaders disqualified for the polls.
The BNP leader called upon the government to take steps for holding an inclusive election in the country, shunning its plan to stay in office without people’s mandate.
Nazrul also urged BNP leaders and activists to get united to restore democracy and save the country from the misrule of the current regime through a strong movement.
