Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Sunday rejected the BNP’s application for holdinga a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Monday for security reason.
The BNP has condemned the decision and said; it will organize the meeting the moment permission will be given.
“The ruling Awami League is an undemocratic force. They are holding rallies on different occasions closing all streets, but we are not given permission,” the BNP Senior Joint-secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said it while talking to journalists at the party’s Nayapaltan office. Rizvi also said that his party is ready to hold such a rally.
“Whenever we get permission we will hold rally as our party men are ready to organize that,” Rizvi said.
Earliear, the BNP said it has completed all preparations to hold the public rally in the capital’s Suhrawardy Udyan scheduled on Monday.
“We have not yet received the permission from the government that we can hold our scheduled public rally. It is not clear why the government is not giving us permission. Parties like Workers Party and former President HM Ershad’s Jatiya Party got permission for public meetings at this venue, but we are deprived. That means the AL led alliance can hold meeting at any place, but not others. It is sign of feudalism ,” the BNP Senior Joint-secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said it while addressing a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan office on Sunday afternoon.
A three member delegation of the BNP met the officials of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Sunday morning.
They reached the DMP at 9am and stayed till 10am to get the permission.
BNP Chairperson’s Advisors Abul Khair Bhuiyan, Abdus Salam and Assistant Organising Secretary Abdus Salam Azad were in the delegation.
Abul Khair Bhuiyan told the journalists that the police had said nothing about the rally.
