BNP held a protest rally on Saturday for the cancellation of the Prime Minister’s recent “anti-nationalistic” deals with India and for the justice of Abrar Fahad murder, amid chase and counter-chase with the police.
The rally started from around 2:00pm in front of the party’s central office at Naya Paltan arranged by Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP.
The BNP had earlier taken verbal permission from the police to conduct yesterday’s rally, the party claimed.
The party’s Assistant Organizational Secretary Abdus Salam Azad said, “We informed Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)’s Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam about the rally. Then he told us that he would inform the commissioner.
“When we told Monirul that our leaders and activists had arrived at the venue, he gave us permission,” Azad said.
He added: “We hoped that the government would not intervene, and let us conduct this rally peacefully.”
Meanwhile, DMP’s Additional Commissioner (Motijheel zone) Mishu Biswas said, “BNP does not have any permission to hold a rally in front of their office. We have not been informed of any such thing.”
Police took their place at Naya Paltan from 9:00am. After BNP leaders and activities arrived at the venue, they engaged in chase and counter-chase with the police.
Azad claimed that some of their leaders and activists have been detained by the police.
However, BNP Standing Committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain commented that the blood of Abrar has sown the seeds against expansionism.

“The student society has united against this. His blood will not go in vain, he added.
The senior BNP leader said, “Democracy would not be liberated without the release of Khaleda Zia. Through united resistance, Khaleda Zia will be liberated, democracy will be liberated.”
