Ruling Awami League’s General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday accused the BNP of provoking a civil war by calling people to guard polling centres.
“Jatiya Oikyafront and the BNP are trailing the country towards a civil war by delivering attacking speeches. They are saying that 300 to 400 leaders and activists of the alliance will take position at each centres on the Election Day,” Obaidul Quader, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, at an international seminar in a city hotel.
He questioned, “If Awami League activists also take position, will not be a civil war?”
Obaidul also alleged that the Oikyafront is being controlled from London. There is no value of Oikyafront leaders, including Dr Kamal Hossain, to the BNP, which uses them only.
The Bridges Minister said that they had found the Election Commission’s activities so far neutral.
“We submitted allegations against Tarique Rahman of taking interview of BNP candidates through video conference on their nomination board. But the EC said that it was not against the election code. So, we are working to find solutions in another way,” he said.
