The BNP has reacted to the statement of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, saying that she has commented against BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, party Chairperson Begum Khaleda and their son in a bid to achieve political gain.
The party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press conference at BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office on Friday said that the PM is lying about the Zia family. He protested the statements of the PM.
Sheikh Hasina on Thursday at her post-Italy tour press conference said that Ziaur Rahman was involved in the murder of Sheikh Mujib on August 15, 1975, while Khaleda Zia and her son were involved in the August 21 grenade attack in 2004.
Reacting to the PM’s comments, Mirza Fakhrul said that Khondaker Mustaq with the support of Awami League leaders was involved in the
August 15 killing. The AL leaders also joined the cabinet of Mustaq following the killing, he added.
About August 21 grenade attack, he said that Tarique Rahman was not involved in the attack. His name was not mentioned in the case. Later, the name was included to achieve political gain. Mufti Hannan, one of the accused of the case, was forced to pronounce the name. Later, he withdrew his confessional statement and said that he was tortured for this, he claimed.
The BNP leader also talked about the current political situation in the country. He said that no one is safe in the hands of the present government. At least 310 political leaders and workers were killed in the last three months.
He also said that the BNP-led 20-party alliance is going to launch a tougher movement to save the democracy and the countrymen from the repression of the government. Everyone should join the movement, he added.
