BNP protests jailing of 3 top leaders

BNP staged demonstrations across the country on Monday protesting the sending of its three senior leaders to jail by a Dhaka court.
The party leaders and activists brought out processions in all the cities, district towns and upazila headquarters throughout the country also to press home for the release of the BNP leaders.
As part of the countrywide programmes, different thana BNP units brought out processions in the city, according to a Dhaka city unit BNP press release.
The party in the press release alleged that their good number of leaders and activists were injured as police attacked their processions at different parts of the city.
It also claimed that police arrested their 10/12 activists.
A Dhaka court on Sunday sent BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas and its Dhaka City member secretary Abdus Salam to jail rejecting their bail petitions in three cases, including a murder case, following arson attack on a bus.
Soon after the court order, BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the protest programme.
