The BNP has protested against the ‘whisking away’ of Hummam Quader Chowdhury, son of hanged war criminal and its leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, by ‘people posing as law enforcers’.
The party released a statement on Friday where it said there is ‘no confusion’ that the government has become ‘reckless on vengeance’. The ‘picking up’ of Hummam has ‘revealed such mentality of the government’, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in the statement.
“I am concerned over such incident,” he said and
demanded ‘unconditional release’ of Hummam.
People posing as Detective Branch personnel picked Hummam from the court premises when Salauddin Quader’s wife and their son went to the court to appear before it in a case on Thursday, the lawyer for Hummam said. The case is over the leak of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) verdict that sentenced Salauddin Quader to death.
His wife Farhat Quader Chowdhury, lawyer Fakhrul Islam and four others have also been named over the leak.
Police have denied the claim that Hummam was picked up and taken to the DB Headquarters.
“Hummam is not in police custody,” DMP Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman said.
