The BNP on Wednesday accused the government of preventing the BNP candidates and leaders from going to voters.
“There is no level playing field at the moment anywhere in Bangladesh. The ruling party men under police protection are attacking BNP candidates’ election campaigns across the country. The opposition party’s candidates are not able to go to voters due to government’s attacking,”
BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed said it in a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan office.
The BNP leader alleged that the government-sponsored terrorists with the help of the EC and police are trying to foil the atmosphere needed for a fair election.
Moudud Ahmed said, BNP will remain in the voting race, no matter how much its men are tortured and how much AL men violate the electoral code of conduct.
He alleged that the Election Commission (EC) and police and civil administration are working under the full control of the government.
Moudud Ahmed exposed different allegations of violation of election code by his rival Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader in Noakhali-5 constituency.
Moudud Ahmed said, “The DC and SP of Noakhali phoned me not to go to my election rally in Kabirhat of my constituency, though I got permission for holding the rally. So, what kind of election it is! It is demonstrated that no election is going to be held when a candidate like me has to return home having failed to hold an election rally.”
The BNP leader said their candidates are facing the identical situation across the country.
That is why they are showing such an attitude.
“The ruling party has established its supremacy everywhere across the country. The reality is that the Election Commission and police and civil administration have been working completely at the government’s dictatation,” he said.
Moudud said, the ruling party is resorting to anarchic acts as they know they will face debacle if the election is held fairly, at least partially.
People are in a serious doubt whether any fair election will be held.
The BNP leader, asked his party men to stay in voting race ignoring all repressive acts.
“A massive wave has already been created in favour of Sheaf of Paddy across the country. Awami League would not be able to resist it, no matter how much power they abuse, he said.
The BNP leader said his rival Obaidul Quader is on campaign with state facilities and protocol.
The BNP leader said though he lodged many complaints with the EC and the returning officer about the violation of election code of conduct by Quader, no action has so far been taken against him.
He said Awami League leaders and activists foiled his scheduled rally at Kabirhat and attacked his activists on Tuesday, leaving over 100 people injured.
He also alleged that the ruling party men have vandalised over 100 houses of BNP men in his constituency over the last nine days.
