BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s daughter-in-law Dr. Zubaida Rahman is likely to join the party’s election campaign across the country.
Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP’s acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, also said to her close allies that she was ready to join direct politics.
Imprisoned Begum Khaleda Zia and London staying Tarique Rahman both have given green signal to the party to involve Dr. Zubaida in politics just now.
Party sources said, Dr. Zubaida Rahman has recently been given preliminary membership of the party from Sylhet as she was born in the district.
BNP senior leaders said, the grassroots party men are waiting for a personality from its founder Ziaur Rahman’s family among them for long.
“In recent political programmes in Dhaka and beyond, there was a vacant and we feel it keenly. Party grassroots leaders and activists want Begum Khaleda Zia among them, or any one from Zia family. But our chairperson is in jail.
Acting chairman is also living in exile. In such circumstances, we have heard that Dr. Zubaida Rahman is coming soon. If it comes true, the party men will be inspired,” BNP Joint-Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal told The New Nation on Wednesday.
Alal however said that he has no such information yet.
BNP party sources said, the party high command observed in the recent days that the party men were in disappointed mood in absence of Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman.
The leaders informed it to Khaleda Zia whenever they met her in jail. Khaleda Zia then asked them to contact Tarique Rahaman to get his opinion.
After decision, Tarique Rahman agreed to let Zubaida enter politics in this crisis moment.
BNP highest policy making body National Standing Committee members recently held meetings on the issue.
BNP senior leaders said, there is uncertainty about Khaleda Zia’s eligibility of contesting in the up coming Parliamentary polls. The party leaders collected three nomination forms for Khaleda Zia to contest from Bogura-6, Bogura-7 and Feni-1.
According to the lawyers, Khaleda Zia can contest in the polls if the court stayed her verdicts.
But it is not sure whether that will be possible.
In such circumstances, BNP was thinking as to who will contest in absence of the party chief from the three constituencies.
In recent meetings of party Standing Committee members, the issue was discussed with utmost importance.
Party leaders want Dr. Zubaida to contest from any one of those constituencies. But London BNP sources said, it may not possible for Dr. Zubaida to contest in this election.
Because her passport was submitted in Bangladesh High Commission in London.
And it will take more time to get the passport back.
They said Dr. Zubaida may not get plenty of time to sign nomination forms after getting her passport back.
BNP insiders said, Dr. Zubaida is trying to come to back Dhaka soon to join election campaign favouring party candidates across the country.
The party leaders plan to fill vacuums of Khaleda Zia by Zubaida Rahman. BNP probable candidates said, the grassroots leaders and activists will exited if Dr. Zubaida participates in campaign.
“We are waiting for our chairperson’s release from jail to join polls campaign. If that is not possible, then our party men at least want Dr. Zubaida to quash all disappointment and despair,” Riazuddin Ahmed, a BNP nomination aspirant from Magura-2 told The New Nation.
He said that not only BNP men, the general people also are waiting for any person from Zia family in this election campaign.
