The date of the programme, however, was not finalised. The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s standing committee held at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office on Wednesday night with Begum Khaleda Zia in the chair. Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman said the meeting discussed several issues, including the Teesta issue. The meeting also decided that Khaleda Zia would visit some districts while senior leaders of the party will hold series of workers and public meetings in every division in the months ahead. The BNP chief called the SC meeting to discuss the latest political situation of the country, party’s preparation of sixth national council, formation of the new committee of the Dhaka city and the strategy for the fresh movement. The meeting said that at least 50 leaders and workers of BNP and its alliance partners were abducted during the movement of resisting the Januray-5 election while the government killed a numbers of leaders and workers.
