BNP pays tribute to Patal

BNP on Sunday paid last respect to its late leader and former state minister for youth and sports Fazlur Rahman
Patal, who died on Thursday at a hospital in India’s Kolkata, by placing wreaths on his coffin.
Patal’s coffin was taken to BNP’s Nayapaltan central office around 10am from Birdem mortuary
and kept on a temporary stage in front of it. BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir along with party senior leaders placed wreaths on his coffin and draped it with a party flag as a mark of respect to the late leader.
Later, his second namaz-e-janaza was held there joined by party leaders and activists. A munajat was offered seeking the eternal peace of Patal’s departed soul. BNP standing committee members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Jamiruddin Sircar, and Nazrul Islam Khan, vice chairmen Abdullah Al Noman, Aminul Haq, AZM Zahid Hossain, Ahmed Azam Khan, party leaders Asaduzzaman Ripon, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Khairul Kabir Khokan, and Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee were, among others, present.
His body was then brought to South Plaza of parliament building around 11am where his third janaza was held.
Later, his body was brought to his village home at Gouripur in Lalpur upazila of Natore by a helicopter. He will be buried at his family graveyard after the fourth and final janaza there.
Patal, also an adviser to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, died at Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Kolkata at the age of 65. His body was flown home from Kolkata on Saturday evening. The body was taken straight to his residence from the airport and his first namaz-e-janaza was held at Banasree-Jam-e-Mosque after Isha prayers. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday night visited his Banasree house and paid homage to him. She also talked to his bereaved family members and consoled them.
