BNP pays last respect to Rahman Biswas

BNP on Saturday paid last respect to ex-President Abdur Rahman Biswas, who passed away at a city hospital on Friday night, by placing wreaths at his coffin.
His coffin was taken to BNP’s Nayapaltan central office around 2:20pm and kept on a stage in front of it, enabling party leaders and activists to have a last glimpse of their late leader.
Later, BNP secretary general
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir along with party senior leaders, on behalf of the party, placed wreaths at his coffin draped with a party flag as a mark of respect to the late leader.
Rahman Biswas, who had long been suffering from old-age complications, breathed his last at United Hospital around 8:27pm on Friday at the age of 91.
His second namaz-e-janaza was in front of the BNP central office participated by several hundred party leaders and activists. Mirza Fakhrul, BNP standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, vice-chairmen Abdullah Al Noman, Abdul Mannan, and senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, among others, joined the janaza.
In a brief address prior to the janaza, Fakhrul said Rahman Biswas was a very sincere, honest and competent leader who served as the Speaker and President of the country.
He said, the ex-President carried out struggle throughout his life for the restoration of democracy and protecting people’s rights. “We, on behalf our party and leader (Khaleda), pay deep homage to him.”
Earlier in the morning, Rahman Biswas’ body was flown to Barisal from United Hospital’s mortuary and his first janaza was held on Barisal Zila School ground.
He will be buried at Banani Graveyard in the evening after his three more janazas.
Rahman Biswas was the President of Bangladesh during the 1991-1996 tenure of BNP.
