Most of partners of the BNP-led 20-party alliance want to contest the local government bodies’ polls independently with their party symbols.
The leaders of several alliance partners said, though they are under the fold of the 20-party alliance and will remain under the fold, they will not take part in the upcoming municipality and Union Parishad (U/P) polls under banner of the alliance.
The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) said that it would contest the upcoming local body polls, which would be held on
party-basis for the first time, independently with party symbol.
The party Chairman Col (Retd) Oli Ahmed said this while addressing the inaugural session of the 4th National Convention of the LDP in the Institution of Engineers auditorium in the city on Monday.
Oli Ahmed said, it is not possible to contest the local body polls by staying with the alliance. “We have to field our own candidates and we will take part in the upcoming municipality and U/P polls independently,” he said.
The LDP chief made the announcement in presence of BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, the chief guest of the programme. The BNP is yet to make any announcement about its participation in local body polls, but the party’s grassroots level leaders and workers are taking preparation to contest the polls across the country.
