The BNP on Monday announced that it would hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on March 19 as the party had not been given permission for Monday’s rally.
“We condemned the government for not allowing the party to hold today’s rally in the city. We will hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on March 19,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said this at a press conference at the party’s Naya Paltan office yesterday.
He said, the party cancelled its scheduled rally as it was not given permission to hold that at Suhrawardy Udyan.
Mirza Fakhrul also announced dates for the party rallies at three divisional cities of Chittagong, Barisal and Rajshahi.
“We will hold rally in Chittagong city on March 15, in Barisal on March 24 and in Rajshahi on March 31,” the BNP secretary general said.
Meanwhile, BNP has organized serial peaceful protest programmes demanding the ‘uncoditional release’ of Khaleda Zia from jail.
Earlier on February 8, a special judge’s court in Dhaka sentenced Khaleda Zia to five years in prison in a graft case. She was sent to Dhaka Central Jail in Old Dhaka.
The BNP has so far failed to hold any public meeting which it announced several times as the government did not allow the party to hold.
On the other hand, the High Court on Monday granted four months bail to Khaleda Zia in the case.
