Joint General Secretary of the ruling Awami League Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif said BNP has been trying to mislead the nation over the upcoming India visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “BNP is trying to relate the ongoing anti-militant drives with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India (to create a scope to sign a defence pact),” he said.
He said this on Monday while addressing as the chief guest an extended meeting of Dhaka South City Awami League at the Institute of Engineers, Ramna here as part of the
preparation to hold national conference of Olama-Mashaik at the historic Suhrawardi Udyan on April 6.
“Any bilateral contract could be signed between two neighboring countries but there is no relation between the anti-militant drive and the deal,” Hanif said, adding that Bangladesh has more than one contracts with India but no treaty can hamper the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh. The AL leader has defied BNP’s claim of giving away all information about Bangladesh to India with striking the deal, saying, “BNP had signed a defence agreement with China in 2004. Then should we say that all our information were sent to China?”
He called upon the BNP leaders not to give any misleading information about the premier’s India visit as they cannot gain any facility likewise the past to spearhead anti-India campaigns as the people of the country have no faith on them.
Dhaka South City AL President Abul Hasnat presided over the meeting while Religious Affairs Secretary of central AL Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and General Secretary of Dhaka South City AL Shahe Alam Murad were present at the meeting.
