A local BNP activist was hacked to death by miscreants at Batiabhanga Dakkhinpara village in Gabtali upazila on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Tozammel Hossain, 45, son of late Osman Mollah of Durgahata village in the upazila and an activist of local unit BNP.
Locals said some miscreants swooped on Tozammel around 7:30pm and chopped him indiscriminately while he was returning home after attending the marriage ceremony of his cousin at Dakkhinpara, leaving him critically injured.
He succumbed to his injuries on the way to Shaheed Ziaur Ramhan Medical College Hospital.
Khairul Basar, officer-in-charge of Gabtali Police Station, said they recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue.
He also said they were trying to arrest those involved in the killing.
