Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Friday said once the BNP leaders raised a storm of criticism against the Covid-19 vaccines but they are now expressing satisfaction after getting vaccinated.
“They (BNP leaders) expressed satisfaction after taking the vaccines, which proved that they made false criticisms…donkeys drink water after muddling it,” he said while speaking at a food distribution ceremony arranged by Dhaka North City Unit of Awami League in the Kurmitola High School ground in the city on Friday afternoon.
Addressing as the chief guest, Hasan, also the Awami League joint general secretary, said the BNP leaders earlier commented that if they get vaccinated, their health would be affected.
“Later, they took the coronavirus vaccines secretly, while some of them received those publicly,” he added.
The minister said though he criticised the inoculation programme earlier, Dr Zafarullah said that he felt good after receiving the jab.
A few days ago, he said, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and its Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi secretly took the Covid-19 vaccines too.
Hasan said most of the BNP leaders now busy making unnecessary criticisms against the government without standing by the people amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic had joined the BNP to enjoy the leftovers of power.
When BNP founder Ziaur Rahman seized the state power at gun point, these leaders joined BNP like the soccer players who change their teams very often, he added.
Chaired by Khilgaon Thana AL President Bir Muktijoddha Keramat Dewan, the function was addressed, among others, by AL Organising Secretary SM Kamal Hossain, its central executive committee member Shahabuddin Faraji, AL Dhaka North city President Sheikh Bazlur Rahman and its General Secretary SA Mannan Kochi and Joint General Secretary Habib Hasan, MP.
Later, they distributed food items among the poor and destitute people.
