General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader on Thursday said, the leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) failed to submit their nomination papers for their individual faults.
The last date of filing nomination papers was on Wednesday. The general election will be held on December 30.
Obaidul Quader said this while speaking in a press briefing at the Dhanmondi office on Thursday.
Organising Secretaries of the party AFH Bahauddin Nasin, Ahmad Hossain, and BM Mozammel Haque, central leaders Abdus Sobur and Baplab Barua attended the press briefing.
“It was internal matter of BNP. So far I know, two leaders of the party did not file their nomination papers for not getting their desired constituencies.”
BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas did not file his nomination paper in time.
So, the Election Commission did not accept his nomination paper, he said.
BNP is now facing a leadership crisis and the party leaders are not accepting the leadership of party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. Jatiya Oikya Front is not united now, Obaidul Quader said.
If the BNP candidates were prevented from filing their nomination papers, they should file specific complaint with the Election Commission, he said.
Referring to the issue of Shakila Farzana, who secured BNP nomination, Quader said that she was allegedly involved in the financing of extremist forces in Bangladesh and BNP had nominated more candidates in the elections who had connection with extremism.
In case of giving nominations under the banner of BNP led alliance, BNP had given nomination to the Jamaat leaders who would take part in the election with ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol, Quader said.
