BNP leader’s bullet-hit body recovered

Police on Thursday morning recovered bullet-hit body of a local BNP leader from Noakhali Medical College Hospital (NMCH).
The deceased was identified as Towhidul Islam, 45, former joint convener of Soanimuri upazila unit of BNP and son of Nurul Islam Master of Bhandragaon village of the upazila.
Dr Iftekar Hasan of the NMCH said a group of 3-4 unidentified men had Towhidul in an injured condition to the hospital in a pickup early Thursday morning.
He was admitted to the hospital with two bullet wounds in the legs and
shortly afterwards doctors there declared him dead.
Nazrul, younger brother of the deceased, said Towhidul had remained missing since Tuesday afternoon after a team of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members allegedly picked him up from the National Press Club area in the capital. Abdus Salam, officer-in-charge of Sonaimuri Police Station, said Towhidul had six cases, including one for murder, filed against him.
