The High Court (HC) on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to BNP leader Tariqul Islam and 12 pro-BNP lawyers including the party’s Vice-Chairman Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain in 12 separate criminal cases.
The lawyers, who got bail, include Advocate Abdur Rezzak Khan, Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Advocate Akhteruzzamman, Advocate Ferdous Akhtar Waheeda, Advocate Taherul Islam Towhid and Advocate Rafique Sikder.
The cases were filed with city’s Paltan, Mohammadpur and
Adabor Police Stations on charges of preventing police from discharging the duty, blasting explosives and holding illegal gatherings at different places in Dhaka on September 11.
The HC Bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Mohammad Ali granted them anticipatory bail till submission of chargesheets of the cases by police to the trial courts concerned.
The bail orders were passed by the HC bench, following separate bail petitions filed by the accused lawyers.
They appeared before the Bench for bail, Advocate Masud Rana, one of the petitioners, told the reporters.
Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain and Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury appeared in the court for hearing on behalf of the accused.
