bdnews24.com: BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has been released on bail 10 months after he was arrested on charges of indulging in violence. Kashimpur Jail authorities freed him when the bail documents arrived on Monday afternoon. Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal Joint Secretary General Aminul Islam told bdnews24.com the BNP leader was on his way home at Shyamoli in Dhaka after his release at 5pm. Amidst tension early this year over the BNP’s protests marking the first anniversary of the Jan 5 general election; police took Rizvi to a hospital when he ‘fell ill’ at the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters on Jan 3. He sneaked out of the hospital after four days and started issuing statements calling for shutdowns along with the blockade the party had launched on Jan 5. RAB arrested Rizvi from a house at Baridhara early on Feb 1. He was subsequently accused of creating violence in 36 cases. Police grilled him for over 30 consecutive days in these cases. The BNP leader had earlier been arrested on Nov 30, 2013 in a police raid on the party’s office.
