Tavella murder: BNP leader Qaiyum, 6 others indicted

The Metropolitan Session Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Tuesday framed charges against
Dhaka city BNP’s Joint Convener MA Qaiyum and six others in the case filed in connection with the murder of Italian aid worker Tavella Cesare.
Judge Md Kamrul Hossain Molla of the court passed the order rejecting the discharge petitions filed on behalf of five accused. Later,
the court fixed November 24 for recording the depositions of the witnesses.
Six other accused persons are: Qaiyum’s brother Abdul Matin, Russel Chowdhury
alias Chatki Russel, Minhazul Arefin also known as Bhagne Russel, Tamzid Ahmed Rubel alias Mobile Rubel alias Shooter Rubel, Shakhawat Hossain alias Sharif and Md Sohel alias Bangari Sohel- suspected supplier of firearms.
Of them Qaiyum and Sohel are on the run. Tamzid, Russel and Minhaz earlier, made confessional statements admitting their involvement in the murder, under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
On June 28, police submitted the charge sheet of the case against seven persons to a Dhaka court.
On 28 September, 2015, Italian national Tavella Cesare, 50, an official of the Netherlands-based non-governmental organisation ‘ICCO Cooperation’, was shot death by some miscreants at Road No. 90 of the Diplomatic Zone of Gulshan in the capital.
