Monirul Haque Chowdhury, an adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and party’s candidate from Cumilla-10 constituency in the December-30 election, was released from jail on Tuesday on bail.
The BNP leader, who had been undergoing treatment at Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj, walked out of the jail after two months and 22 days, said his lawyer Advocate Nazmus Sadat.
He said Monirul secured interim bail from the High Court in two cases filed in connection with the petrol bomb attack on a bus in Chouddagram upazila of the district on February 3, 2015 that killed eight people.
He was shown arrested in the two cases filed under the Anti-terrorism Act and Special Powers Act- with Sadar Dakkhin Police Station. He then secured bail in the anti-terrorism case.
On January 7 last, the High Court granted him bail in the case filed under Special Powers Act.
