BNP leader and former mayor candidate of Dhaka South City Corporation election, Ishraque Hossain, was granted bail on Tuesday, six days after he was sent to the jail in an arson attack case.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Md Tofazzal Hossain passed the order after his lawyer appealed for bail. There was no legal bar for his release from the jail, said Ishraque’s lawyer Taherul Islam Tawhid.
Ishraque was arrested on April 6 as he was distributing leaflets protesting price hike of daily essential commodities in capital’s Motijheel area.
Police said an arrest warrant was pending against him in a case filed with Motijheel Police Station over carrying out subversive activities in Motijheel area on November 12, 2020.
