Tk 8 crore seizure: BNP leader Apu held

RAB-1 on Friday detained BNP nominated candidate for Shariatpur -3 Constituency Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu from United Hospital in connection with the withdrawal of Tk eight crore in cash ahead of election.
Apu was undergoing treatment in the United Hospital from the day he sustained injuries during polls campaign.
He was personal secretary of BNP’s acting Chairman Tareq Rahman. Earlier, he was also in jail in different cases.
Lt Col Sarwar-Bin-Quasem, commanding officer of Rab-1 said Apu will
continue to get treatment under Rab custody.
On December 25, RAB detained three people in the capital’s Motijheel and Gulshan area for allegedly distributing money to influence the voters of the election and also instigate violence.
They seized Tk eight crore and several cheques amounting to around Tk 10 crore from their possession.
Mia Nuruddin Apu is accused in number four in the case filed over the haul, the RAB official added.
