Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, the platform of the pro-BNP lawyers, on Monday held a rally in the Supreme Court protesting the placement of the 16th Constitution Amendment Bill, which will restore the power of the Parliament to impeach the Supreme Court judges, in the House. BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed and former president of Supreme Court Bar Association Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain addressed the rally, among others, with president of the forum Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah in the chair. Moudud commented that the government was working for yet another amendment with ill motive and a deep-rooted conspiracy. The independence of the judiciary will be violated if the Parliament gets the power to impeach the SC judges, he said.  Rafiqul Islam Miah looked for a subservient judiciary and, for this it had taken the decision of amending the constitution to impeach the judges. A strong resistance would be built against the move, he said.He announced that they would bring out procession in all bars of the country until the next decision in protest against the move of the government. Meanwhile, the BNP said that the party would announce movement programme protesting the government move. The party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the programme would be finalised after discussing it in the party forum. He said this while talking to journalists after visiting an ailing BNP leader in a city hospital. He accused the government of moving with the Amendment in order to bring the judiciary under political control. The government wants the judiciary to act as per party decision, he said.
